Users, organizations & projects

What are users?

A user is anyone that exists in the Smartvid.io universe. This includes anyone who’s already created an account and is currently accessing the app, as well as anyone that has been invited by an existing user but has yet to sign up.

Broadly speaking, a Smartvid.io organization is a group of people that should have access to some or all of the same projects. Each SV.IO project exists within the “umbrella” of a parent organization.

Every user begins their Smartvid.io experience with their own organization. This is automatically created when you join, and you will have the highest possible level of permission over all aspects of it, and over all projects created within it. You will also become a user of other organizations if you are given access to any of their projects’ content.

Depending on your level of access and your Smartvid.io plan, you may be able to create additional organizations of your own

What are projects?

Projects are areas of the site where your team can store, organize and collaborate on a group of photo and video files. Each project is meant to work as a repository that gathers content from all users who have access to it.

Since project members are likely to be be interested in searching for/tagging/discussing different things across different projects, each project has a unique tag dictionary. (Click here to learn more about tag dictionaries.)The SmartTag engine also refines its tagging behavior for each project on feedback only from within that project. In other words, each project essentially has its own customized, uniquely “trained” SmartTag engine.

Since every team has different needs, you should use projects to group your content together in a way that’s most useful for you, keeping organization and searchability in mind.

Here are some examples of how our users have defined their projects:

  • if you’re a construction company overseeing field managers, your projects might be your various properties currently in development.
  • If you’re an assembly line supervisor, your projects could be days or time periods of assembly line footage, or site locations.
  • If you’re the owner of a drone consultancy, your projects could represent different engagements with your multiple clients.

When it comes to projects and organizations, again, just think about what makes the most sense for your team. The SV.IO system is designed to allow high flexibility for content access and control.
